A gathering drum brings your classroom, group or family together to celebrate and communicate via drumming. A fun group activity, designed to accommodate several players at the same time playing by hand or with the included soft beaters. A great addition to any drum circle or social event, and an essential component of every classroom drumming collection. This drum has a fantastic projection with a booming, well-rounded sound and the built-in feet allow its many sounds to ring out whether playing seated or standing at a table. It is lightweight (5 lbs) and sturdy, perfect for the most rigorous classroom use, and the pre-tuned synthetic drumhead is resistant to changes due to weather.
As with all SLAP brand drums, the tactile playing surface includes the innovative “how-to-play” graphics printed directly on the drumhead. These show where the hands or beater should strike to obtain a variety of sounds, making it effortless to create booming bass, crisp slaps, and singing open tones. As one teacher put it “the graphics are a godsend when teaching the different sounds and tones of hand percussion.”
The SLAP Gathering Drum will enliven any musical performance both with its warm and powerful sound, and its colorful patterned exterior. Musicians and educators recommend this drum for introducing the joys of rhythm not only in the classroom but also in music therapy sessions, drum circles, or anywhere you feel like jamming.

Testimonials
Slap Percussion is what Elementary music education has been waiting for! The instruments of SLAP Percussion Range are very responsive to the students’ touch and produce a superior sound to any other elementary hand percussion instrument. The graphics on the heads are a godsend when teaching the different sounds and tones of hand percussion. The instruments themselves are very sturdy and can take the stress that young elementary students can put on instruments. In addition, these instruments are perfect for use by special needs in the inclusion music classroom. Finally, the cost alone for such a quality instrument makes this a highly desirable addition to the classroom. I highly recommend these instruments to any general music or elementary music program!

How to play
The design on the drum head shows examples of hand positions that can be employed to obtain a fabulous variety of tones from the drum, from punchy bass to cracking highs. When you hit the skin, let your hand bounce back allowing the sound to ring.
Beat
This area in the centre of the drum produces a warm and full tone. Use the beaters to strike the centre of the drum for a solid rhythmic backing, allowing accents to be created using the tone and slap positions.
The Bass
You can also use your hands to strike the centre of the drum for a warm and full tone. This provides a solid rhythmic backing, allowing accents to be created using the tone and slap positions.
The Tone
Straighten all your fingers at the same time. There are numerous hand positions that can be used to create the tone. Think of your hand as a straight extension of your arm, and you should get a solid ‘thud’ sound.
The Slap
This stroke can be played in the same position as the tone, the difference is that one relaxes the hand and arm to hit the drum with a slap-like motion. Spreading your fingers out slightly when they strike the head helps create a crisp clear sound.
